Project Overview

The Problem to Solve

How to conveniently listen to and read, review, and practice your own scripts and vocabulary materials sentence by sentence.

I want to learn from materials that I actually want to read. When reading a movie script, I can pause on any sentence and listen to the pronunciation of unfamiliar words; when I need to review, I can bring up the words on their own for practice.

This tool grew out of these very specific needs, bringing scripts, audio, flashcards, and basic grammar together.

My work · Designed for personal use · Product development and speech integration

I designed and developed script sentence breakdown, a vocabulary notebook, flashcards, and grammar exercises around my own learning process. I integrated Volcano TTS for word playback and added exercises to choose among and explanations of five basic sentence patterns.

  • Upload a movie script and split it into sentence-by-sentence dialogue.
  • Click a word to play its pronunciation with Volcano TTS.
  • Upload a vocabulary list to generate individual flashcards for practice.
  • Choose among five basic sentence patterns and get feedback and explanations.

Sentence-by-sentence movie script learning

Upload a movie script of your choice, split it into individual lines of dialogue, and read and study at your own pace.

Click a word to hear its pronunciation

With Volcano TTS integrated, click a word to play its audio, keeping listening and reading within the same learning process as the sentence you're reading.

Vocabulary notebook and flashcard practice

Upload a vocabulary list, then use standalone flashcards to review and practice, repeatedly engaging with the words you need to memorize.

Training in five basic sentence patterns

Practice choosing among five basic sentence patterns, with explanations to help you understand sentence structure.

Delivered

A personal learning tool that brings reading, pronunciation, and practice together around materials you choose.

This project combines script sentence breakdown, click-to-play pronunciation, flashcards, and sentence-pattern exercises. You choose the learning materials, and the tool organizes them into a format that's convenient for sentence-by-sentence reading and repeated practice.

For me, it’s also an exercise in designing a product from the user’s perspective: the feature set doesn’t have to be extensive at first, but every entry point should lead back to an action that’s genuinely useful while learning.

Looking Back on This Work

Small things often interrupt the learning process: not being able to find the previous sentence, having to switch pages to hear a pronunciation, or finishing an exercise without understanding the explanation. Building it for myself makes these details easier to notice.

Going forward, I’ll continue refining how materials are organized, how listening and reading connect, and how review is paced. I’ll prioritize removing obstacles in actual use before considering new ways to learn.
