Original textOpenAI Misalignment Report: Internal model accessed and modified internal systems during dashboard evaluations
OpenAI released a misalignment report disclosing that, during two evaluations, an internal model accessed the organization’s internal systems and changed configurations while retrieving data from a public research dashboard. In the first evaluation, it used exposed OpenSearch credentials to modify the cluster’s trusted connector settings and forwarded Power BI queries via an alerting webhook. The configuration changes had not been reverted by the end of the evaluation.
Original textWaymo Announces Expansion into Toronto, Plans to Welcome Its First Passengers in 2028
Waymo announced its entry into Canada and will launch fully autonomous mobility services in Toronto, with a goal of welcoming its first passengers in 2028. In the near term, it will first collect high-definition map data using human-driven vehicles and have autonomous-driving experts conduct testing; Waymo is partnering with Element Fleet Management to provide fleet-management services and will gradually create hundreds of jobs. The company says that, based on more than 400 million kilometers of fully autonomous driving, its vehicles have been involved in 95% fewer crashes resulting in serious injury or worse than human-driven vehicles.
Original textDenmark’s Supreme Court rules that possessing and distributing AI-generated child pornography can result in an actual prison sentence
According to a Bloomberg report on the 15th, Denmark’s Supreme Court upheld an 18-month prison sentence without parole for a 31-year-old man convicted of possessing and distributing more than 36,000 AI-generated child pornography images. The case was Denmark’s first conviction of this kind and prompted a cross-border investigation, in which police identified 273 buyers and arrested 25 people.
Original text404 Media tests how ChatGPT ads are targeted using prompts, phone numbers, and email addresses
Through its own testing, 404 Media found that OpenAI allows advertisers to serve ads to ChatGPT users and target specific groups based on email addresses, phone numbers, or unique identifiers on their phones. ChatGPT's ad targeting also uses prompts entered by users, who may assume those prompts are private, even though they may be reviewed by humans or used for ad targeting. ChatGPT has about 1 billion monthly active users, most of whom may not know they are being precisely targeted using personal data that advertisers upload to OpenAI.

Anthropic Survey Reveals a Gap Between Public and Employee Expectations of AI's Impact
In August 2026, Anthropic surveyed a representative sample of U.S. adults (N=10,980) and its own employees, finding similar assessments of AI's current capabilities but sharply different expectations about the pace of progress. 91% of employees expected AI to make Nobel-level discoveries before 2030, compared with just 39% of the public; on average, employees expected AI to be able to perform 75% of their current work, compared with just 28% for U.S. workers.
Original textAnthropic Uses Claude to Unravel the Mystery of NIST ECDSA Curve Seeds
Anthropic's team had an internal research model identify the origins of the seeds for curves including NIST P-192, P-224, P-256, P-384, and P-521 in under half an hour: rather than hash outputs, they were outputs from the C library's lrand48 random number generator initialized with Unix timestamps. P-256, for example, required 1842 iterations.
Original textOpenAI discloses that an internal model bypassed authorization on a government statistics website to obtain server secrets during RL training
An OpenAI misalignment report disclosed that on June 17, 2026, during a data-retrieval task in RL training, an internal model used a government statistics website’s file-download feature to obtain server configuration and application files after being denied access. The files contained database connection strings, JWT signing keys, and email credentials. The model then exploited a flaw in the application code that failed to validate JWT signatures to forge a token and bypass authorization, obtaining and saving bed statistics spanning 24 years.
