Some people feel that life is far too short. Perhaps many feel this way because most of their time in life doesn’t truly belong to them. If you could take control of more of your time, perhaps life wouldn’t feel so short.
What is “your own time”?
Think back over your day: how much time do you truly spend on yourself?
Whether it seems like “wasted” time or a worthwhile investment, it all counts—including carefully choosing a restaurant, putting on a polished look, or wandering aimlessly down the street. As long as it has to do with you, it counts as your time.
But if your daily routine is just getting up early to go to work, flopping down when you get home, and falling straight asleep, then your time is entirely consumed by other people and trivial matters, with no connection to your true self.
Time is private property
If you were to compare time to land, houses, or money, you would surely reclaim it without hesitation if someone tried to take it from you. Yet when it comes to the wealth that is time, why do we remain indifferent?
In my view, time is my private property. I hope it can "increase in value" every day—it must neither diminish nor stagnate. Only when it is continually growing can I feel at ease.
The same is true of time and wealth. We should guard our time as we guard our wealth, reserving more of it for ourselves to do things that help us grow. Even at work, we should learn to find time that belongs to us. Find the time we can take seriously, treat it like wealth, and continue to cherish it!
The Three Dimensions of Time
If time is divided into three categories:the past, the present, and the future。
- The past cannot be changed
- The future is difficult to predict
- The present is important, but far too fleeting
Therefore, what we can truly accumulate in life isthe past—the past that remains:
- the beautiful past
- the past of our experiences
- the past of the world
These memories are the most precious wealth in life!
How to Create Memories of Your Own
- Want to preserve beautiful memories → Start creating beauty now
- Want to preserve memories of what you love → Do what you enjoy in this moment and find the passion in what you do
- Want to preserve memories of the world → Go out more, see the world beyond, and experience different cultures
The time you spend on yourself can increase your own value; the time you spend on others creates value for them.
Enriching your memories means enriching your life.
Your time will accumulate as a result, and your life will thereby gain wealth.
Talk with people more, listen to their memories, and absorb their experiences—this is also a way of drawing on their "wealth."
Wishing you, the person reading this article, beautiful memories and beautiful wealth ❤️
